Money saving tips from Pocono Mountain Petroleum
- Thermal Pane Windows: A Thermal Pane window can save a lot of money and pay for itself in a relatively short period of time. They not only save heat and expand the comfort zones, they also insulate from sound penetration.
- Be sure your Hydronic Loop or Radiators are full of water - Air can get in those loops or radiators as the heat system ages or integrity of boiler is compromised.
- Digital Thermostats: These are probably the most cost effective ways to save on your heating bill. By programming the times of when your rooms or areas of your home will be used or not used, you can reduce the heat requirement. Reducing temperature while you sleep or not home and having the thermostat automatically increase the temperature before you wake or come home.
- Door Seals or Weather Strips - By stopping air flow or drafts will lower your heater's demand and allow for more comfort. Check your door on a sunny day for light ant any of the door sills or sides. If you see light, there's air coming in. Use caulking to seal cracks or holes.
- Humidifiers: Winter air is very dry. They say "In Arizona, you don't mind the heat, there's no humidity.", well in winter the heat seems thin due to low humidity. A humidifier will make 70? feel very comfortable. 70? without humidity will actually seem very cool. Water is cheaper than heat, and a humidifier can be good for your health too.
- Use Pocono Mountain Petroleum! We offer a very competitive oil price and have a host of programs to offer our customers.
- Consider a 2nd tank - This allows your to buy fuel when it is less expensive (summer), thereby getting you further through the heat season before you need to refill.
- Insulation: When building or remodeling, insulation is the best step to heat retention. By installing a generous amount of insulation, you will re-coup the expenses quickly. Proper installation is an imperative. If you "over--pak" insulation tightly, you will not recognize its potential.
- Outlet & Switch Gaskets: These are easily overlooked, but can save a lot. Avalable from Home Improvement Centers or harware stores, they will stop air from "dumping" out of walls, invading your comfort area.
- Beware of " Built To Code" - If a builder or rennovator says it'll meet code, they could also say "Any less, and it would be illegal...". Don't be impressed too easily.
